Mechanical Failure of Air France Flight 4590

The Air France Flight 4590 crash was the beginning of the end for the Concorde supersonic jet. Aviation Attorney Paul Hedlund is interviewed by KCAL Los Angeles to discuss the tragic aviation disaster that ultimately led to the demise of the Concorde.

Investigators found that the Concorde ran over a piece of debris during takeoff, which cut one of the plane’s tires. A chunk of the tire flew underneath one of the wings, which caused one of the fuel tanks to rupture. The leaking fuel was likely ignited by either coming into contact with hot parts of the engine or an electric arc in the landing gear.
