Fatal Bus Accident

FedEx Truck Made Unsafe Turn, Causing Fatal Bus Accident

Glenn County, California

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has wrapped up their investigation into last year’s fatal crash involving a tour bus and a FedEx tractor-trailer. According to the CHP report, an unsafe turn caused the FedEx truck to cross over the median of Interstate 5 and collide head-on with a Silverado Stages tour bus loaded with students on their way to Humboldt State University for a campus visit.

The report indicated that the unsafe turn may have been related to driver fatigue or an undetermined medical condition, though the CHP says there is not enough conclusive evidence to determine whether or not either were factors. According to the Desert Sun, the CHP found that environmental factors, vehicle maintenance, and road conditions were not significant factors in the accident.

The fatal crash happened at around 5:40 p.m. on April 10, 2014. Ten people were killed and 39 others sustained injuries in the tragic bus crash. Among those killed were FedEx truck driver Tim Evans, bus driver Talalelei Lealao-Taiao, five students from southern California, and three adult chaperones.
