Bell Helicopter Crash Claims the Life of Veteran Pilot

Longtime helicopter pilot Kenneth E. Squires died on Sunday morning after the Bell 47 helicopter he was flying went down near a field outside of Jeanerette, Louisiana. The fatal helicopter crash happened at around 10:20 a.m. just north of U.S. Route 90 and West of Hubertville Road.

Authorities say Squires was crop dusting when the crash occurred. By the time the first ambulance arrived at the scene, the 60-year-old Jeanerette native had passed away. He had been crop-dusting for about 30 years, according to the Lafayette Advertiser.

Officials did not find any sign that the chopper had impacted with power lines, as is often the case with downed crop dusting aircraft. No word has been given on the cause of the crash. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will be investigating the crash.
