Los Angeles, June 16, 2015 – – With a bioengineering degree, stern dedication, and vast legal knowledge, A. Ilyas Akbari has taken the legal community by storm. Baum Hedlund Aristei & Goldman is proud to announce Super Lawyers® are once again acknowledging his work and have ranked Ilyas in Up-and-Coming 100: 2015 Southern California Rising Stars – Top List. The Super Lawyers® Rising Stars section of Los Angeles magazine and the 2015 Super Lawyers® magazine both feature his name in the Annual List of The Top Young Attorneys in Southern California.

The 100 Up-and-Coming list is composed of the best of the best. Only those who received the highest point totals in the Southern California Rising Stars nomination, research and blue ribbon review process made the list. This is the first publication of this list.

This commendation comes after a rigorous selection process created by Super Lawyers®. To be eligible for Rising Stars, an attorney must have practiced for 10 years or less or be 40 years-old or younger. Those named in their Rising Stars list only constitute 2.5 percent of those that go through the Super Lawyers® selection process.

From a humble beginning as a refugee who fled the perils of war torn Afghanistan alongside his family at the age of three, Mr. Akbari now dedicates himself to fighting battles in the courtroom. He uses his experience in both law and science to investigate and dig out the cause of the client’s injury or death. He specializes in pharmaceutical drug and medical device product liability and major commercial transportation accidents.

Attorney Akbari, a partner of the firm, has worked on many of the firm’s notable cases, such as a helicopter crash resulting in a $7.5M settlement, a $6M settlement for the death of a passenger in a corporate jet crash, and $3.5M to a pedestrian who suffered a mild traumatic brain injury after being struck by a garbage truck. Ilyas also served on the trial team for a Tyson Foods truck crash case resulting in a jury verdict of over $7 million—the largest verdict for the death of an unmarried person in the history of Ohio. This verdict was increased by $1.5 million to $8.5M, when the judge awarded prejudgment interest.

Ilyas has also served on other successful trial teams including one in Colorado where he was co-counsel for a trial against Riddell, a football helmet manufacturer, after a teenager suffered a brain injury while wearing one of their helmets. That trial resulted in a jury verdict of $11.5 million against Riddell, football coaches and many high school administrators.
Super Lawyers® previously named Ilyas Akbari to their list of Rising Stars from 2007 to 2014. He also holds a Superb Score of 10 out of 10 from Avvo.com and has earned the highest AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review Rating through Martindale Hubbell®.
