How the 9/11 Hijackers Likely Took Over the Planes

NBC Extra
Reporter Phil Shuman
September 18, 2001

Although we are led to believe that flying an aircraft may take several years of training and experience, aviation attorney John Greaves showed NBC’s Extra how relatively simple it is to take over a plane already in flight. Mr. Greaves, a former pilot, conducted a hands-on presentation to show how easy it was for the 9/11 hijackers to carry out their terrifying mission. Greaves also pointed out that the hardest part of flying is the take-off and the landing, not the actual flying of the plane. Greaves also stressed the importance of changes in safety that needed to happen, like stronger cockpit doors and pilot’s remaining in the cockpit no matter what.
