Big Rig Overturns, Injuring Four People
New York, New York - April 29, 2013
Four people were taken to area hospitals after sustaining injuries in a gruesome accident caused by an overturned big rig. The crash took place on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE) near the Manhattan Bridge in Brooklyn. Authorities say the truck flipped over and hit a Nissan sedan, nearly sending it over a guardrail. According to the New York Daily News, two people in the sedan sustained minor injuries. The westbound side of the BQE was closed for the entire day Monday. As of now, the cause of the truck crash is unclear. An investigation is underway. 


Woman Killed in Tractor Trailer Crash
Asheboro, North Carolina - April 26, 2013
A woman was killed Friday afternoon when her SUV was struck by a tractor trailer. The fatal accident occurred at around 3:00 p.m. on the eastbound side of U.S. 64 and Parks Crossroads Church Road. Nancy Ocampo of Siler City was involved in a minor fender bender on U.S. 64 East that left her vehicle disabled. She was sitting in her vehicle when it was struck by a tractor trailer. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A spokesman for the North Carolina Highway Patrol stated that the second fatal crash was a result of the first crash. According to the News & Record, charges against the tractor trailer driver will be decided by the district attorney's office. An investigation into the incident is underway. 


One Critical, Two Others Injured in Big Rig Crash
Fayette County, Ohio - April 21, 2013
A big rig accident in Fayette County, Ohio left three people injured Sunday night. The crash took place at the intersection of U.S. 62 and Ohio State Route 238 just before 10:00 p.m. Authorities say a pickup truck collided with the trailer section of the big rig. One of the injured was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition and another was taken by ambulance to Fayette County Memorial Hospital. The driver of the big rig also sustained minor injuries. The Fayette Advocate reports that the names of those involved in the accident have not been released, nor has any information been released regarding the events leading up to the crash. An investigation is underway.


One Seriously Injured in Tractor Trailer Wreck
Cornelius, North Carolina - April 17, 2013
One person was hospitalized early Wednesday morning after a crash involving two tractor trailers. The accident took place at around 4:11 a.m. on the northbound side of Interstate 77 near the Catawba Avenue exit. Officials with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) say a tractor trailer smashed into the cab of another tractor trailer. According to WBTV 3 News, one person was taken to a nearby hospital after sustaining serious injuries. At this time, it is unclear what caused the crash. An investigation is underway.


Semi Crash in Ogden Injures Two
Ogden, New York - April 12, 2013
Two injuries were reported Friday when a semi collided with a passenger vehicle in Ogden, New York. The accident occurred at the intersection of Manitou Road and Vantage Point Drive near Route 531. Officer Ron Brett with the Ogden Police told the Democrat and Chronicle that a Chevy passenger vehicle was southbound on Manitou Road when it was struck by a semi entering Manitou Road from Vantage Point Drive. A passenger in the Chevy was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Chevy reportedly suffered minor injuries in the accident. The semi driver, who failed to yield right-of-way to the Chevy, has not been cited by law enforcement. An investigation is ongoing.


One Killed, One Critically Injured in Accident Involving Tractor Trailer
Greensboro, North Carolina - April 10, 2013
The driver of a Toyota Prius was killed and his female passenger critically injured after an accident involving a tractor trailer. The crash happened just after midnight on Interstate 40 near Lee Street in Greensboro, North Carolina. Authorities say Khristopher Blue drove his Toyota Prius off the right side of the road, then overcorrected and hit a tractor trailer. Mr. Blue was pronounced dead at the scene. His female passenger, 21-year-old Laterria Shaundria Whitner, was rushed to Moses Cone Hospital with injuries considered to be life-threatening. According to the Greensboro-News Record. Authorities say the tractor trailer driver Alan Coe was not at fault for the crash, though Coe was charged with a DWI and DWI in a commercial vehicle.


Teen Girl Killed in Box Truck Accident
Cape Girardeau County, Missouri - April 5, 2013
A 17-year-old girl was killed on Friday afternoon when the SUV she was riding in was struck by a box truck. The fatal crash occurred at around 3:40 p.m. on Highway 34 in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri.

Law enforcement officials said a Slumberland Furniture box truck crossed over the center line on Highway 34, colliding head-on with the SUV. Fire fighters were able to extricate 18-year-old Erin L. Cordell, 18, from the SUV. The other person in the SUV, 17-year-old Amelia Fisher of Bollinger County, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two men in the box truck were pulled from the burning wreckage by another motorist.

According to the Southeast Missourian, Cordell and the two men were taken to St. Francis Medical Center with moderate injuries. An investigation into Friday's crash is ongoing.


One Injury Reported in Semi Crash
Parkville, Maryland - April 4, 2013
A crash involving a semi and several other vehicles has left one person injured. The accident occurred at around 5:40 p.m. on the Outer Loop of I-695 between Perring Parkway and Harford Road in Parkville, Maryland.

CBS Baltimore reports that although authorities have not commented on what caused the crash, the Sky Eye Chopper 13 captured footage of an accident victim being put onto a stretcher. The accident shut down several lanes as officials began to investigate the accident.


95 Vehicle Crash Leaves Three Dead, Many Injured
Galax, Virginia - March 31, 2013
A series of accidents on a foggy stretch of highway near the Virginia-North Carolina border left three people dead and 25 others injured on Sunday. The accidents began at around 1:15 p.m. on Interstate 77 in southern Virginia.

In total, there were 17 crashes involving 95 vehicles within the span of a mile. Authorities say the road is notorious for heavy patches of fog. Photos of the accident showed burned up tractor trailers among several demolished passenger vehicles.

The LA Daily News reports that injuries sustained in the accidents ranged from serious to minor. The names of the deceased have not yet been released.


Big Rig Driver Charged in Fatal Missouri Crash
Republic, Missouri - March 27, 2013
A big rig driver has been arrested for his role in a fatal crash Wednesday morning in southwest Missouri. The accident occurred at around 9:00 a.m. on U.S. Route 60 in Republic. Authorities say 31-year-old truck driver Lei Sun rear-ended a pickup truck and another passenger vehicle, pushing both vehicles into a stopped big rig. Both the pickup and the passenger vehicle were essentially crushed between the two big rigs. Killed in the crash was the driver of the pickup, 65-year-old Lawrence Coan of Kimberling City, and the driver of the passenger vehicle, 41-year-old Corey Gresham of Macon. The Republic reports that Sun has been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter and is being held on $25,000 bail in Greene County.


Tractor Trailer Strikes and Kills Man in Wheelchair
Trenton, New Jersey - March 25, 2013
A tractor trailer struck and killed a homeless man in a wheelchair on Monday afternoon in Trenton, New Jersey. The fatal accident occurred at 12:20 p.m. on Market Street near South Clinton Avenue.

The New Jersey Star-Ledger reports that the tractor trailer was attempting to "turn onto a jug handle that leads onto Barlow Street" from Market when it collided with the homeless man. "The truck was making a right-hand turn and it appears the victim was struck by the tires of the trailer," said Lt. Steve Varn of the Trenton police. The homeless man, who was in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released. An investigation is underway.


Truck Crash Kills One
Lenoir, North Carolina - March 20, 2013
A multiple vehicle crash involving a semi, a box truck and an unknown third vehicle left one person dead and two others injured. The fatal crash occurred at around 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday on the southbound side of U.S. Route 321 in Caldwell County, North Carolina. According to the Charlotte Observer, the semi and the box truck collided, with debris striking a third vehicle. The driver of the box truck was killed in the crash. A passenger in the box truck suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The semi driver was also injured, though the extent of his injuries is unknown. The accident remains under investigation.


Tractor Trailer Driver Booked on Suspicion of Drunk Driving
Vancouver, Washington - March 18, 2013
A tractor trailer driving the wrong way on the southbound side of Interstate 205 collided with a passenger vehicle early Monday morning, injuring a 24-year-old woman. The accident occurred at around 4:20 a.m. on the north side of the Glenn Jackson Bridge in Vancouver, Washington.

Vancouver resident Katherine Mary Emerson, 24, was taken to an area hospital after her car was struck by the tractor trailer. Law enforcement identified the truck driver as Kenneth Eugene Burgess, 49. The Columbian reports that Burgess was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, two counts of second-degree criminal mischief and reckless driving.


Three Injured in Tractor Trailer Accident
Charleston, West Virginia - March 11, 2013
A crash involving a tractor trailer and a passenger vehicle has left three people injured. The car accident took place just before 10:00 a.m. on Interstate 77 near the exit for Eden's Fork. Authorities say an improper lane change on the part of the tractor trailer driver resulted in the collision. The accident sent the northbound passenger vehicle onto the southbound side of the Interstate. Three people in the passenger vehicle were taken to area hospitals. None of their injuries are considered life threatening. According to WOWK 13, the truck driver was cited by law enforcement.


One Dead, One Injured in Accident Involving Box Truck and Garbage Truck
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma - March 6, 2013
The driver of a box truck was killed on Wednesday after a collision with a garbage truck. The fatal accident occurred at around 1:00 p.m. at the intersection of Northwest 150th Street and Western Avenue. Authorities say the driver of the box truck crossed over the median for unknown reasons and collided head-on with the garbage truck. According to KOCO,  the box truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The garbage truck driver was taken to a local hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.


Woman Killed in Semi Accident
Schuyler County, Illinois - March 5, 2013
A 43-year-old woman was pronounced dead Tuesday night after an accident involving a semi trailer. The fatal crash occurred just before 11:00 p.m. on U.S. Route 67 near the Illinois 101 junction. Authorities say weather conditions may have contributed to the semi driver losing control of his rig and crossing over the median into oncoming traffic, where he collided head-on with a passenger vehicle driven by the 43-year-old woman. Her name has not yet been released, pending notification of the family.

The 32-year-old truck driver was injured in the crash and taken to Culbertson Hospital for treatment. According to KHQA, another semi crashed moments later at the same location. The driver of that truck also sustained minor injuries. Both accidents are being investigated by local authorities.


One Dead After Postal Service Truck Accident
Colonie, New York - March 2, 2013
A 28-year-old man from Schenectady was killed Saturday morning after being hit by a U.S. Postal Service tractor trailer. The fatal accident occurred on Central Avenue at around 3:30 a.m. Authorities say the driver of the Postal Service truck did not see 28-year-old William Jennings in time to avoid a collision. Jennings was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. According to Your News Now, the driver of the tractor trailer was assaulted after stopping the rig to try to help Jennings. He was taken to Albany Medical Center to treat his injuries. An investigation into the crash and subsequent assault is being handled by the Colonie Police Department, who encourages any witnesses of this accident to call (518) 783-2744.


Six-Year-Old Killed After Being Run Over by Semi
New York, New York - February 28, 2013
A six-year-old boy was killed Thursday morning after being struck by a semi. The tragic accident happened in East Harlem on East 117th Street at around 8:00 a.m.

The boy was walking to school with his 9-year-old brother when he was struck by the trailer portion of the semi as it was making a right turn. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. This type of accident, commonly referred to as a "right hook," occurs because trucks have large blind spots when making sweeping right turns.

NBC New York reports that the identity of the young boy has not yet been released, pending family notification. The boy’s older brother was uninjured in the accident. 


Fiery Crash Involving Big Rig Sends at Least One to Hospital
McIntosh County, Georgia - February 26, 2013
At least one person was injured Tuesday night in a crash involving a tractor trailer and multiple passenger vehicles.

The crash took place at around 11:00 p.m. on Interstate 95 near exit 49. Authorities say the crash ended with a passenger vehicle completely underneath the tractor trailer, and another vehicle engulfed in flames. At this time, the Georgia State Police have released limited details about the circumstances leading to the accident. All that is known at this time is that at least one person was taken to a local hospital with injuries, according to WTOC-TV.

Georgia State Police will be investigating the accident.


Drivers Injured After Big Rigs Collide
Bridgeport, West Virginia - February 20, 2013
The drivers of two big rigs were taken to local hospitals Wednesday night after the two trucks collided on Interstate 79. The accident occurred at around 7:30 p.m. not far from mile marker 125.

Authorities say one of the big rigs rear-ended another for unknown reasons. Both drivers were trapped in their rigs for some time following the accident. The extent of the injuries sustained by both drivers are unknown, though one of them had to be airlifted to Ruby Memorial Hospital. According to WDTV, the Bridgeport Police will head the investigation into this accident.


Woman Injured in Hit-and-Run Truck Crash
Waco, Texas - February 12, 2013
A 30-year-old woman was injured after her vehicle was struck by a tractor trailer Thursday afternoon in Waco. The accident occurred at around 5:00 p.m. on Interstate 35 near the Martin Luther King, Jr. exit. The woman, whose name has not been released, was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center to treat her injuries. Authorities say the tractor trailer driver stopped briefly after the accident, then fled the scene. According to KWTX, investigators are urging anyone who saw the accident to contact the Waco Police.


Multiple Vehicle Crash Kills One
Cecil, Ohio - February 5, 2013
An unidentified person was killed Tuesday morning after a collision with a tractor trailer. The fatal accident occurred at around 8:00 a.m. on U.S. Route 24. The accident involved a total of 11 tractor trailers and several passenger vehicles. An Ohio State Trooper said the chain-reaction accident began when a passenger vehicle was hit by a tractor trailer at an intersection on U.S. 24. Poor visibility made subsequent crashes inevitable. At this time, it is uncertain what precisely caused the crash. The only other injury reported by the Toledo Blade was the driver of a Chrysler Group Transport truck, who was taken to a local hospital. An investigation is ongoing.


Two Children Dead, Many Others Injured in Tractor Trailer Crash
Detroit, Michigan - January 31, 2013
A crash involving tractor trailers has left two young children dead and a host of others injured. The accident occurred Thursday morning on Interstate 75. Authorities say roughly 30 vehicles were involved in the accident that killed a 7-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl. The two children are believed to be siblings from Windsor, Ontario, though that report has not been confirmed. Local law enforcement officials estimate that at least 13 other people were sent to the hospital with injuries. At this time, bad weather is thought to have been the culprit of the accident, though an investigation is ongoing. The New York Daily News reports that motorists in the area reported "blinding snow squalls, high winds and slick highway" conditions prior to the accident.


Tractor Trailer Rear-Ends Fire Truck, Injuring Seven
Prince George, Maryland - January 30, 2013
Four firefighters and three other people sustained injuries early this morning in a crash involving a tractor trailer, a fire truck and a passenger vehicle. The crash took place after 3:00 a.m. on Interstate 495. According to NBC News, a tractor trailer rear-ended the fire truck, causing it to overturn. Four firefighters sustained injuries in the accident. One of the firefighters had to have his arm surgically reattached at a nearby hospital following the accident. A Jeep passenger vehicle was also involved in the crash. It too overturned, injuring three people. Their conditions are unknown at this time. An investigation into the crash is being handled by the Maryland State Police, the Prince George Police and Prince George's County Fire Department.


One Injured in Tractor Trailer Accident
Maumee, Ohio - January 19, 2013
A 52-year-old man was hospitalized early Saturday morning after a collision with a tractor trailer. William Eyre, 52, was rushed to University of Toledo Medical Center immediately following the accident, which occurred at around 1:40 a.m. on the Ohio Turnpike. Authorities say the tractor trailer was westbound when it lost control, crossed the median and hit a guardrail before overturning in the eastbound lanes of the Ohio Turnpike. Eyre was heading eastbound and could not avoid a collision with the overturned tractor trailer. According to The Toledo Blade, Eyre's condition is not currently known. At this time, investigators are uncertain what caused the tractor trailer to crash.   


One Killed in Fiery Big Rig Accident
Newport News, Virginia - January 18, 2013
Law enforcement officials have identified 27-year-old Jar Rasmichael Morse as the victim of a fatal accident involving a tractor trailer. The accident happened at around 5:00 a.m. Friday morning on Interstate 64.

Authorities say the events leading to the crash started when a 19-year-old woman lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a guardrail. The young woman was attempting to flag down someone for assistance when a tractor trailer struck her vehicle, then lost control and hit Morse's Buick. Both the tractor trailer and the Buick caught fire. According to WAVY, alcohol does not seem to be a factor in the crash. An investigation is underway.


Driver Killed in Crash Caused by Semi
Clark County, Nevada - January 14, 2013
A 54-year-old woman driving a Buick LeSabre was killed today after a head-on collision with a semi. The fatal accident occurred just before 6:30 a.m. near Lamb Boulevard on Interstate 15. Local law enforcement officials say the LeSabre was next to a tractor trailer that made an unsafe lane change. The driver of the LeSabre, 54-year-old Farrilyn Gaston Diaz, veered out of the lane to avoid an accident only to collide head-on with an oncoming semi. She was pronounced dead at the scene. According to 13 Action News, the tractor trailer that made the illegal lane change left the scene of the crash without stopping. An investigation is underway.


Woman in Coma After Being Struck by Time Warner Van
Youngstown, Ohio - January 11, 2013
A 25-year-old mother was struck by a Time Warner van on Friday evening, leaving her in a coma. The pedestrian accident occurred at around 5:42 p.m. Authorities say Victoria Allen was crossing U.S. 422 to get some food from Arby's when she was hit in the center lane of the five-lane highway. Witnesses to the accident say the Time Warner driver "straight ran her over."

According to the Youngstown Vindicator, Allen was rushed to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown following the accident. Time Warner issued a statement saying that the company's "thoughts and prayers are with the individuals involved." An investigation is ongoing.


Three Dead in Truck Accident
Grants, New Mexico - January 9, 2013
Law enforcement officials have identified three victims in today's fatal semi accident. The crash occurred this morning on interstate 40 just outside of Grants, New Mexico. Authorities say the semi truck, traveling in eastbound lanes, crossed over the median and drove head-on into a westbound truck.

Devin Marine, 27, Branden Macurio, 21, and Rick Macurio, 47, were killed in the accident. Marine, who was driving the truck, was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the semi and a passenger were both injured in the accident and taken to hospitals with "extensive injuries."

According to KOAT, alcohol does not seem to be a factor in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.


Crash Involving Truck Leaves Two Dead
Curryville, Missouri - January 5, 2013
A fatal car accident involving a big rig resulted in the death of a Missouri couple. Nancy and William Stafford were killed Saturday afternoon at around 2:15 p.m. when a big rig crossed the median on U.S. Route 54 and collided with their vehicle. Authorities say big rig driver Ibrahim Bourakba, 32, swerved to avoid colliding with a vehicle in front of him and crossed the median into oncoming traffic, smashing into the Stafford's SUV.

The Staffords were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. According to KSDK, Bourakba was injured and taken to Mercy Hospital. An investigation into the crash is underway.
