Harry Skigis’ Testimony

Harry Skigis spoke about Paxil before the FDA advisory board hearing in February 2004 regarding the risk of suicide in children and adolescents taking antidepressants. Harry took Paxil for anxiety. He was not depressed, but after starting Paxil he became extremely depressed, to the point of attempting suicide.

Since no hearings were yet scheduled regarding adults and SSRIs, Harry testified at the hearing and explained his frustrations with GSK, the manufacturer of Paxil, as well as the FDA for not effectively warning the public about the drug.

Harry lived to tell the FDA why he believes
Paxil made him try to kill himself.
